Question B4-002
A support agent in Foundry Agent Service must answer with current information, but only from three public partner websites and never from the rest of the web. Which grounding approach fits?
Select one answer.
Answer: D
Domain-restricted search with Grounding with Bing Custom Search limits results to the public domains configured in your Bing Custom Search instance. General web search grounds on the public web as a whole, and deep research is for multi-step research and synthesis. File search searches documents that users provide during an interaction, not live websites.

How it works
Foundry Agent Service offers several web grounding scenarios, and the web search page lays out when to pick each one:
- General web search: the agent needs current information from the public web, without a separate Bing resource or project connection.
- Domain-restricted Bing Custom Search: search results must come from public domains configured in your Bing Custom Search instance.
- Deep research: an o3-deep-research agent needs multi-step research and synthesis.
- Bing grounding tools: you need the explicit bing_grounding or bing_custom_search_preview tool type with a Bing project connection.
The requirement "only these three partner websites, never the rest of the web" is the definition of the domain-restricted scenario. You create a Bing Custom Search instance, configure the three partner domains in it, and have the agent's web search use that instance.
Keep the compliance notes in mind: Grounding with Bing Search and Bing Custom Search are governed by their own terms, data transfers occur outside compliance and geographic boundaries, and their use incurs costs.
The other options, and when you'd use them
- General web search with no further configuration: It grounds on the public web as a whole, so it can't keep answers to the three partner sites.
- o3-deep-research with direct web search: That's for multi-step research and synthesis, not for restricting results to specific domains.
- File search pointed at the websites: File search grounds agents in your documents, and Microsoft positions it for searching user-provided documents during an interaction. It isn't a live web crawler.
Exam tip
"Current info, but only from these sites" = Bing Custom Search with configured domains. "Current info from anywhere" = general web search.
